DESCRIPTION
The 94-unit affordable senior housing project at 510 Renaissance Way is the first building constructed in place of the Journey’s End Mobile Home Park which was destroyed in the Tubbs Fire in 2017. The four-story building occupies 1.43 acres within the 13.3 acre integrated master plan also designed by VMWP.
The building design is based on the principles of health, wellness, and active living. Socialization and connectivity are integrated into the program amenities through interconnected walkways, large indoor community space for residents, a media room for watching movies or holding talks for smaller groups, library/reading area as well as central laundry room. The lobby is connected by a circulation spine to the rear parking area, making the lobby an active community area with seating, mail services and management space. Connection to the outdoors and natural light are maximized throughout the project, designed to visually and physically connect with the outdoor courtyard, gardening planters, and central park and nearby dog park at every opportunity.
Resiliency Features
- Exterior materials are fire resistant and exposed wood is fire treated
- Flat roof designed to minimize the ability for fire to gain access to the interior of the building
- Backup power provisions for critical emergency systems
- Focused areas provide safe haven cooling centers for residents and others, if needed

- The building design provides shading for south and west facing windows to reduce heat gain loads.
